What is the size of an average weekly share?
For a single share, you can expect 2 kinds of fruits and 4 kinds of veggies typically. An example of quantity would be: 3 apples, 3 pears, 1 bunch kale, 1 head broccoli, 1 butternut squash, 2lbs potatoes. A single plus includes the single share plus three additional items (typically two veggies/one fruit.  A double share is for double the produce (same selection just double the quantity).

What farms supply the weekly produce?
Our produce comes primarily from Genesis Growers (certified organic), fruit from Seedling Farms (Integrated Pest Management which means there are still some chemicals used but much much less than “conventional” produce you’d find at big box stores). In winter months we will fill in with organic produce from our main produce distributor, Goodness Greeness, but our goal is to source locally grown produce as much as possible.

How long does the season last?
Each “season” is typically 26 weeks long. We typically offer a time before each season begins when you can pay in full for the entire season and receive 10% off. After that time, you can pay in full or sign up on our website to have your PayPal account deducted weekly.

Can I sign up mid-season?
Yes! You are welcome to jump into the program at any time. You can either pay for the prorated weeks left in full or sign up on PayPal for the weekly deduction.

When do I pick up my share?
We offer two different days-Tuesday and Saturday. You choose the same day each week and pick up between 2-9pm on your pick up day.

What if I can’t pick up on my designated day one week?
If you cannot pick up on that day, you may pick up on the following day but please do your best to pick up on the actual day. You DO NOT need to call/email us if you’re going to pick up a day late. If you don’t pick up the day after the designated day, the following day your produce will be donated to a local community center for mentally challenged adults and children.

What do I do if a friend is going to pick up my share?
You DO NOT need to call us if a friend is going to pick up your share. If they have your name, they can get your produce!

What if I want my produce delivered?
We do it! We deliver your produce using a local bike messenger service. The delivery charge is $8/week and our delivery zone is bordered by North Ave, Western Ave, Van Buren and State Street. If you live/work outside of this zone, unfortunately we will not be able to deliver.

What happens if I go on vacation for a week?
During the 26 week season you get one “bye week” in which you give us 48 hours advance notice that you will not pick up your produce that week and we will refund you for that share. No refunds can be given unless we get 48 hours notice and again, you get one bye week only please.

What do I do if I have a produce item that doesn’t meet my expectations?
ALWAYS let us know by emailing us at info@greengrocerchicago.com! We get your produce delivered fresh for you on your designated pick up day but sometimes even the freshest of produce can act unpredictably. We encourage you to let us know so that we can correct any issue with our farms and get you “make up produce” the following week. Remember that truly fresh produce like we get (that hasn’t been irradiated, waxed or preserved in the way that most conventional produce found at the supermarket) has a short shelf life so dig in and use it as quickly as possible!

What happens if I have an allergy to a certain item of the week?
If you have an allergy to a particular produce item, please let us know and we will help you find a substitute for that item. Please do not try to substitute a produce item for another if you simply have it at home or don’t feel like cooking with it that week. We order specific amounts from our farms and we can only make substitutions in the more extreme cases (otherwise we will run out of items for your fellow produce share subscribers!)

Can I jump in and out of the program or get produce every other week?
Right now we are set up only for people who get produce weekly but you are welcome to try out the weekly program and if it does not work for you, you can cancel your subscription.

What happens if I want to cancel my share? Is there a fee?
We do not charge a fee for cancellation. You can cancel your share at any time and we will always want feedback if there is anything we can do to improve the program. If you have paid in full, we will refund the remainder of your share and if you are paying on PayPal, we (or you) can simply cancel the automatic payments.
